“Untitled” by Mark Maza (Recorded Studio Performance)

This poem is from “forWord: Hear What We’re Saying,” which is part of a composed list of original spoken word poems recorded in the studio.

This is the first time we released a track off from our recordings. We only previously had this available at our live performances. More to come!

“The Things They Said” by forWord

Stephanie Sajor, Eddy M. Gana Jr., and Susan perform their spoken word piece “The Things They Said” at Uncultivated Rabbits Presents Poetry Showcase at their alma mater University of California, Irvine, CA. This piece came from our looming anxiety not knowing whether we will have a bleak or bright future after college graduation.

Interesting Fact: forWord met through Uncultivated Rabbits, the one and only spoken word organization, at UC Irvine. They served as board officers and are Lifetime Rabbits.

“I Hate Being Vietnamese” by Fong Tran

Vid Credits go to Dou Her

We met Fong Tran at our very first APIA Spoken Word and Poetry Summit in the Bay Area of 2009. A lot has happened since then. It is always so wonderful to see where the people we met and connected with so long ago are now today. Recently he shared a poem written specifically for the South East Asian Graduation Class of 2012 at UC Davis. Check it out!

egana:

So thanks to my company, Pacific Child and Family Associates, I have been given the opportunity to teach a passion of mine: The series is entitled, “Introduction to Spoken Word Poetry.” For ages 13 - 17, this will be suitable for beginners and novices. There will be fun and creative exercises to encourage self-expression in a safe and open environment. Participants will learn to develop their voices as young poets. If you haven’t heard of spoken word and want to know what it is or if you have and want to try it out or if you just want to write and perform, then come check out this series! To enroll, please visit:

http://www.burbankparks.com/registrationmain.sdi

Search the activity #2571.305.

This summer as part of the Burbank Recreational Program I will be leading from June 20 - August 18 at the McCambridge Recreational Center. It is $78 for residents and $83 for non-residents. It will be held on Wednesdays from 6:30 - 8:30 PM.

One has registered so far. There are eight open slots left. There needs to be a minimum so please come through and help me spread the word to all who you feel may be interested. Classes begin on June 20, but the last day to register is June 28! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to message me. Thanks!

Correction on my part: the activity # is 2571.305, not 2571305. Thank you so much for your help! Here is the flyer! Gotta love that beatnik image they picked out for my class. Haha.
