U.R. Presents: Project VOICE... 2011 Edition
The next generation of Uncultivated Rabbits brought out Sarah Kay and Phil Kaye aka Project VOICE for the second year in a row on Thursday, January 27, 2011. Almost exactly one year after we brought them!
Right before heading down to UCI for the event, I was so anxious at work. Seriously, there I was in my cubicle typing away on the computer, but inside, I was ready to jump out of my skin, I was...

"A Poem is Never Finished, Only Abandoned." - Bao...
egana:
Bao Phi said those wise words when he was doing a mentoring session with me at the APIA Summit Bay ‘09.
So last night, I was inspired to take a look at some of my old poetry; some pieces that I only performed once or twice. This wasn’t out of some random act of boredom. I was actually motivated by Kundan Chhabra, an Uncultivated Rabbit alumnus, like myself. He was at the Uncultivated...

4. Hot
stephsajor:
This prompt has gotten me stuck, so as of late I haven’t been continuing my 100 Snapshots goal of completing every prompt. But I’m also realizing that not everything I have to write is gold, nor do I have to be embarrassed by my words if they don’t sparkle. Sometimes, it is what it is.
So with my conviction in writing renewed, this is my snapshot for “Hot.”

DPL - SLAM NIGHT
This is a late post, but better late than… y’know what late people say.
forWord visited Da Poetry Lounge in LA for its SLAM night on Tuesday, January 18th 2011. We were ready to be inspired and for sure were inspired by the poets that filled the room that night whether they spoke or not: Shihan, Poetri, Brutha Gimel, and Project V.O.I.C.E. (Sarah Kay and Phil Kaye).
Much respect...

Write one leaf about spooning.
when the world feels cold outside
and i need a blanket of warmth up against me
my feet, steady, make their way towards the kitchen floor
ready… 3… 2… 1…
hot soup in a can!
and i’m spooning it into my grandma’s old porcelin bowl
in remembrance of her great spooning abilities
my childlike face and puffy cheeks (i was a fat kid)
in awe at her hands, swift...

Write one leaf about sled dogs.
On a leash, tamed,
These wolves are meant to roam,
Directions of their own choosing,
“Mush, mush!” yells the hooded figure,
Their eyes are blanketed in snow, leering into nothing,
The whips crackling into their fur,
Twilight is upon them,
On a leash, tamed,
They are wild with adventure.

Write one leaf about cold coffee.
When the day awaits me,
I await it…
the only thing that hits the spot
and makes a beautiful warm day, more beautiful.
an iced vanilla latte,
i see the drips of water perspiring around the cup,
i feel the sweet sensation as the first drop touches my taste buds,
a familiar feeling, the realignment of the universe,
it’s as if something in life is finally right
a joy, that lifts...
3. Feathered
stephsajor:
This is about a pet bird I had when I was in junior high.
—
I’ve had a lot of pets over the years. But I will always remember your bluish hue, mixed with the dirt in the shallow grave we made you in our backyard the day after you died. My brother and I held a funeral for you. We even had candles. It was late at night when we discovered you, fallen. And stiff. I always thought your...
2. Stale
stephsajor:
She bit into the piece of bread, expecting a fluffy satisfaction. Instead, she bit too hard, meeting a tooth aching crunch. Gagging on the dry texture, she spit out the offending gob of wheat, slightly moist from her own saliva. You idiot, she scoffed to herself, rubbing her jaw.

Paradise Perks' Open Mic: Moving forWord.
So tonight at Paradise Perks’ Open Mic was the night that forWord was finally made known to people outside of its four members: Stephanie Sajor, Susan Diep, Mark Maza, and I.
